How To Make Money From Websites

As much as it is fun designing and putting your websites together, it’s important to not lose track of why you’re creating your sites in the first place. If you want to create a full-time, sustainable income from your websites, you need to understand how you make money from them in the first place. Let us firstly say that there are many way you can monetise a website, most of which are very simple to achieve whether you are a total beginner or an experienced marketer. From promoting affiliate offers to putting up paid adverts and earning revenue through programs such as Google Adsense, the opportunities are endless. Rather than overwhelm you with the vast amount of ways to make money online, let’s look at the most common ways of Monetising a website.

Amazon Affiliate Program

Now you have got to have been living under a rock for the past 15 years if you haven’t heard about Amazon. Amazon, which originally started out as a online book store, is now one of the biggest shopping sites on the internet, and guess what? They have an affiliate program! It’s called the “Amazon Associates” program and it’s free to sign up to. Once signed up you will then be able to get access to “affiliate links” for any of the products on Amazon. If you refer someone to amazon through one of these affiliate links and they make a purchase, you get paid a commission.

Unfortunately the commission rate is only around 5%, but even so you can imagine how quickly the commission can add up with the vast number of products available in the marketplace. To make things even better, Amazon offers a “24 hour cookie” on affiliate links, meaning that if someone doesn’t buy anything after clicking on one of your Amazon affiliate links, but revisits amazon within 24 hours, you still get paid even if the sale isn’t for the product you promoted! How cool is that!

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is a great way to make money with little effort. You will of most likely have seen examples of Adsense on various sites you’ve visited. Usually a website will have an advertisement block within the text or on the sidebar advertising products or services. Now here is the cool part, if anyone clicks on those advertisements the owner of the website will earn a commission just for the click! The viewer doesn’t even need to purchase the product/service, just click on the ad and you earn a commission! The commission you earn varies depending on your target keywords, and often it’s not much (like $0.30). Ok, I know that doesn’t sound like a lot, but bear in mind that it’s just for a click! Imagine if you had 10 or more sites each generating clicks 30 clicks a day? Suddenly we’re now talking about $90 a day – not bad! The earning potential is endless.

Affiliate Programs

Depending on your chosen niche you should be able to find digital products such as eBooks and courses that you can promote, some of which pay up to 75% commission. There are literally thousands of products which will pay you a good commission, and finding them is easy. Start looking into affiliate networks; a good place to start is Clickbank. Clickbank is a digital marketplace for venders and affiliates, and it’s very easy to set up an account with them. Just visit here to sign up for a free account and search the market place for products around your chosen niche. Once you find a product you would like to market, just hit the promote button and you will be given a unique affiliate code to put onto your site. Just like the Amazon affiliate links, if anyone clicks through from your link and buys, you will be paid a commission up to 75% of the product cost.

Email Marketing

You may have heard the phrase “the money is in the list” before, and that’s because if you have a decently-sized list of subscribers that you are able to email and communicate product offers with, you are in a great position to make money anytime you want. Of course building a list still requires you to have something to offer to your prospective subscribes, and it also means you’ll have to build trust slowly with your subscribers before they are likely to buy. However, the payoff of a good email list is beyond anything else you can do, so it should definitely be something you consider doing. Since the majority of people don’t buy instantly on recommendation, building a list will gain the trust you need from your subscribers to make sales.

Your own product or service

You may find that you have a product or service of your own to market. Maybe you have certain skills in need and decide market that through your site. Owning your own product means that you receive 100% of the revenue, although you could also find your own affiliates to promote your product to maximize on the amount of sales you receive.
